Airstream Travel Trailers

Airstream began with a single man and a most singular dream. The man was Wally Byam: his dream, to build the perfect travel trailer. Airstream has always prided itself on being about the spirit of the open road and wanderlust and the spirit of adventure and freedom. And you can really see those things reflected in this vehicle. Airstream has always been synonymous with the freedom of the open road. Today the dream lives on.

Airstream has gone from being the “Cadillac of trailers” to, in Huttle’s words, the “Mercedes of towables.” This shift is more than semantic. Airstream is trying to update its image to appeal to a younger, design-savvy market. Airstream has always been synonymous with the freedom of the open road. Today the dream lives on. Airstream is now producing a 25′ lightweight classic trailer that can be towed by a car or SUV. It is of the same classic design with “regular RV windows” and lighter weight cabinets and materials on the inside.

Airstreams are known for their design, comfort and substantial size (this is the company that manufactures the Land Yacht motorhome, after all). Their new Basecamp model changes all that. Airstream offers three floor plans. Ours, like the Naifes’, featured the “front sleeper” setup with two 74-inch lounge sofas on either side of the central walkway (and with storage areas beneath the sofa seats).
